The Supplement Sales Funnel

The supplement space is a great opportunity to expand or start your online business.

Not only is the industry expanding rapidly, the tools available for you to use today make it extremely simple to get started!

But how do you actually get started selling your supplements online?

And how do you make sure you are getting the most out of the traffic you are working so hard to get to your product? 

I’ll cover all of that in more in this article!

How To Sell Supplements Online

With every year, more and more people are interested in starting a business selling supplements online.

And it’s easy to see why!

For instance, in 2021 the global supplement industry brought in a whopping $151.9 Billion .

On top of that, with more and more manufacturers offering private label service, where they make the supplements and just put your label on them, it’s becoming easier than ever to get your supplement business up and running!

But you’re still left with one question…

How are you going to actually sell your supplements online?!

Luckily you have a lot of options…

Unfortunately, you have almost too many options, and it can get a bit overwhelming.

So I’ll narrow it down for you to the 3 most popular options people go with…

  1. Amazon
    1. When amazon rolled out its Fulfillment By Amazon program in 2006, they completely changed the game for online sellers. Instead of having to manually ship out every order to their customers, small businesses were able to just ship a bunch of inventory into Amazon and amazon would ship them out when they got ordered.

      On top of that, Amazon is one of, if not THE, biggest online marketplace in the entire world, which means if you can get your product to show up regularly in Amazon’s search results, you can have a FLOOD of customers in minutes!
  2. Shopify
    1. Shopify streamlined the process of setting up your own online store with its revolutionary software making it incredibly simple for everyday business owners to have a professional looking online store.
  3. Sales Funnels
    1. Technically anything that makes a sale is a form of sales funnel, but that’s not what I’m talking about here. I’m specifically referring to online sales funnels which are highly optimized selling machines focused on one thing, giving your visitors the most value possible and putting money in your pocket.

Each of these are great options, but they do have their drawbacks.

With Amazon, you are constantly battling with every other person who is selling on the platform (and there are THOUSANDS of them).

And because Amazon limits how you can communicate with your customers, you end up competing on the only thing you can….

Your Price!

It inevitably becomes what is known as a race to the bottom, where every business tries to sell their products for as little as possible, barely squeaking a profit out of the whole deal.

To make matters worse, Amazon itself has figured out the game, now if your product is making a ton of sales, they just make a similar product and sell it for far less than any other seller possibly could.

With shopify, the first thing you have to do is learn some level of marketing to get people to your store to begin with.

If no one sees your store, you aren’t going to make any sales.

Once you have visitors, you have to turn them into customers, which is not Shopify’s strong suit.

Because of how the platform was intended to be used, the pages themselves aren’t great for making actual sales pages and selling things.

That being said, it is possible, but you have to add extra plugins and in most cases do some coding.

Lastly there’s sales funnels.

And like shopify, you’re still going to have to get people on your actual site.

That being said, if you have the right sales funnel builder, you have a lot more tools to use to make sales.

On top of that, sales funnels are laser focused on getting conversions from visitors, which means once you get people there, your odds of making a sale are a lot better!

You’ll still have to learn some of the nuances of making your sales funnel

Here’s the bottom line, no matter what option you choose, you’re going to have to learn something, that’s just how business goes.

But out of all the options, sales funnels have the highest upside, meaning the most money making its way into your pocket.

Once you start getting your feet under you, you can expand back to the other platforms if you want to, using all 3 of them together to grow your business.

You can even use Amazon’s warehouses to store your products and ship them out to customers you get from your sales funnel or Shopify store!

All of it can work great, but you first have to get the business off the ground.

So with that all in mind I’ll focus on sales funnels for the rest of this article.

What Is A Supplement Sales Funnel?

A Supplement funnel can be one of the simpler sales funnels out there.

The biggest reason it’s so simple just comes down to the actual product itself…

If you’ve ever met someone who was completely in love with a supplement, they can seem a little crazy… maybe even really crazy.

For whatever reason, people go all in with supplements and because you can hold on to supplements for a while, people will buy HUGE amounts of supplements all at once…

So in the sales funnel, you can offer them the same supplement more than once!

That’s what makes it so simple!

Here’s the breakdown of the pages inside of a Supplement Sales Funnel…

-Sales Page
-Upsell Page
-Upsell Page
-Upsell Page
-Order Confirmation

There are other pages you can add in as you get more advanced, specifically downsell pages, but this is what the funnel will look like to start with.

Sales Page

This is where the whole funnel starts for your visitors when they reach your website.

Your sales page is the key to the entire funnel because if you can’t make the initial sale, nothing else is going to matter.

In most cases you can use a Video Sales Letter, which is essentially just a video that sells the product.

One of the keys to making more money in your sales funnel than you would on Amazon or Shopify happens right below the video…

Instead of just offering visitors one bottle of your supplement, you can give them multiple different options to choose from with volume discounts.

A good place to start is to offer 1, 3 or 4 bottles, one you start seeing results you can start testing with other options.

Part of the reason these number work so well is because if someone is completely sold on the supplement they’re going to want to get more than one bottle…

Since they’ve already made that decision, they’re left with 3 bottles or 4 bottles, which takes them to the prices, since the cost per bottle is cheaper for 4, some people are going to go straight for the 4 bottles.

It all boils down to the 80/20 rule to some extent, some percentage of the people are just going to buy more from you so you might as well offer it to them.

Upsell Pages

These pages are going to end up looking very similar to your sales page, but much shorter.

Again each one will have a video at the top, but it will be much shorter than the video on the sales page.

The reason you have these pages here is really because if you don’t ask, the answer is always no.

Just by at least making extra offers, you can pick up more sales than if you just took people straight to the order confirmation.

These upsell pages are really what makes sales funnels perform so much better than Amazon or Shopify in the long run.

To keep this section from getting too confusing, I’m going to break down the structure of what to offer in your upsells and when to do it in the next section.

Downsell (Optional)

This is one of the pages that is for more advanced funnel builders, but I wanted to mention it in here quickly.

downsell is similar to an upsell, but the main difference is that you only offer it when someone says no to a product.

Essentially what you do is offer a different product, or a smaller bundle, at a lower price when someone says no to your original upsell.

It’s a quick way to make more sales without having to do too much extra work.

But the set up can get confusing, so don’t use these until you have your upsells dialed in and converting!

Order Confirmation

Once someone has made it all of the way through your upsells (and possibly downsells), they’re going to want to see what they ordered.

This is where your order confirmation page comes in.

It’s just there to show them what they purchased and, if you have one, give them their tracking number for their order.

How Do You Upsell Supplements?

Unique in the online space: true upsell, selling more of the same.

First things first, we need to go over what an upsell actually is.

For simplicity, I’m going to use the term like most of the digital marketing world uses it; as a generic term to refer to both true upsells AND cross sells.

That means, I’m going to use the term to refer to literally anything you offer after your original product.

Also, I’m basing this one the assumption that you are using a dedicated sales funnel building software and are able to make One Click Upsells.

These one click upsells are one of the key components to making this funnel run so smoothly.

Okay, now that we have that covered, let’s go into the best way to sequence upsells in your supplement funnel for the most conversions.

Supplement funnels are fairly unique in the sales funnels space for one reason…

The first upsell you’re going to offer after your main product is a bundle of that SAME PRODUCT!

I know it seems completely backwards, but it’s proven to be one of the best ways to maximize your supplement sales.

You can make this bundle as high as 8 bottles! 

Remember how I mentioned earlier that when people buy supplements they tend to buy A LOT, this is what I’m talking about!

It will completely blow your mind!

If you build this funnel, I can almost guarantee you at some point someone will buy 4 bottles on your sales page AND 8 bottles on your first upsell

It doesn’t seem to make logical sense, but it happens.

So that’s your first upsell, 8 more bottles of the same supplement, now let’s go to your second upsell.

The second upsell should be another supplement that is at least loosely related to the original product.

They obviously aren’t going to do the exact same thing, but both of them could help with weight loss or whatever your overarching problem you’re helping people solve is.

When you’re first starting out, it’s best to just offer one bottle in your second upsell…

But as you get more advanced, you can either give them the option of 1 bottle or 3 bottles on the upsell page OR you can get really technical and offer 3 bottles on the upsell page and 1 bottle on the downsell page.

In either case you’re still offering them a second supplement to help them reach their goals.

Finally, the 3rd upsell page.

Realistically, this page can be optional if you don’t have another product to offer, but I highly recommend adding it once you have enough products.

This is a 3rd supplement in your niche that you know will help them to reach their goals.

Set up wise it follows the same rules as the 2nd upsell.

Buuuutttt, you can swap this out for some kind of continuity program if you have one!

That’s the holy grail if you can that offer into your supplement funnel.

Again, that’s REALLY advanced, but wanted to mention for all you overachievers out there.

So now what?

You have the exact road map to build the supplement sales funnel that will take your business to new heights…

But how are you going to build it?
